Pressure on South Africa to beat Eagles again, Says Okocha

Former Super Eagles Captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha believes South Africa are under pressure to beat the Super Eagles following their disappointing draw away to Pirates of Seychelles in the fourth round game of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

South Africa will welcome Nigeria in the next match of the qualifying campaign and another disappointing result might see their hope of featuring at the Nations Cup in Cameroon take another twist if Libya beat Seychelles.

Okocha believes that the Super Eagles are going into the game in a good situation as they need just a point out of available six to seal their return to the Africa Cup of Nations having missed out in the last two editions.

“South Africa vs Nigeria is always that kind of match where bragging rights are everything. So that will be a big motivating factor for both teams, especially for us because we lost the in the previous fixture”.

“We have a slight advantage, a draw will be enough for us. South Africa are under pressure even though they might be confident because they beat us in the 1st leg. I know the teams are little different now but we will take pride in getting revenge”

The 1994 AFCON winner also urge Nigerians to support the team rather than piling pressure on them and he added the World Cup experience has helped the young Super Eagles team to grow.

We have a squad of good young players who can turn things around, they have the ability. But our problem is always great expectations. Let’s change our mentality and allow them to mature.

The experience they got from the World Cup has built them and they will go on to achieve big things. I believe we are on the right track.” He concluded.
