Soweto Derby: Akpeyi shut out by Kaizer Chiefs fans

Daniel Akpeyi will cheer Kaizer Chiefs on from the stands when Amakhosi take on Orlando Pirates in the PSL’s unofficial curtain raiser this weekend.

Akpeyi was not listed for the much anticipated 2019/20 Carling Black Label Cup, however, not by Coach Ernst Middendorp but the fans.

 

Although the goalkeeper’s involvement with Nigeria at the AFCON would mean he is still on break.

 

The starting XI for both teams were decided by the fans – who deemed to have Bruce Bvuma deputize for injured Itumeleng Khune.

 

The exhibition match is still one of the biggest fixtures in South African football, because it’s the first Soweto derby of the new season.

 

Orlando Pirates XI:

Wayne Sandilands – Justice Chabalala, Mthokozisi Dube, Happy Jele, Innocent Maela – Vincent Pule, Ben Motshwari, Luvuyo Memela, Thembinkosi Lorch – Augustine Mulenga, Justin Shonga.

Kaizer Chiefs XI:

Bruce Bruma – Eric Mathoho, Lorenzo Gordinho, Daniel Cardoso, Ramahilwe Mphalele – George Maluleka, Siphelele Ntshangase – Duminisani Zuma, Lazarous Kambole, Bernard Parker, Khama Billiat.

 

The pre-season match is scheduled for Saturday 27 July, kick-off is 2pm local time at the FNB Stadium.
