Step Up! Nigeria moves into Africa’s Top three Bracket in Latest FIFA Ranking

Following back to back wins against Libya in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria has moved four spots higher in the latest FIFA ranking to climb to third in Africa and 48th in the World.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria smashed Libya 4-0 in Uyo in the first-leg of their AFCON 2019 Group E qualifying match and three days later picked up another W against the North Africans.

 

In far away Sfax, Tunisia, and Odion Ighalo Brace inspired the Three times African champions to a hard fought 3-2 victory.

 

Last month, the FIFA ranking published on 20th September saw Nigeria sitting as fifth best team on the continent; after the world cup and an AFCON 2019 qualifying match.

 

The latest ranking which was published on Thursday by the world governing Body; FIFA, based on the Elo Ranking system, takes into cognizance the several data including the expected result of the game.

 

Prior the October matches against Libya, the Mediterranean Knights were top of Group E with Nigeria in third, albeit with just a point separating them.

 

Meanwhile, Tunisia and Senegal stay put as the top two teams in Africa. On the global stage, the top four remains unchanged.

 

Belgium, France, Brazil and Croatia maintain the positions in that other, but France dropped points.

 

The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on 29 November 2018.
