Liverpool opened a five-point gap at the summit of the Premier League table following a hard fought 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
It was the Reds’ first win at the Bridge since 2016 and the victory condemned Frank Lampard’s Chelsea to yet another burden of seeking their first home win this season.
Two first-half goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino – the latter listed by Brazil for the friendly against Nigeria – helped Liverpool take control in the first 45 minutes.

Chelsea let several goal scoring opportunities slip; Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Michy Batshuayi the guilty parties.
The host though they had leveled when Cesar Azpilicueta put the ball in the back of the net, but it was chalked off by VAR.
Eventually, they did score when N’golo Kante slalom his way onto the edge of the box to unleash a delicate curl.
They halved the deficit, but couldn’t get the leveler and in spite of a strong second half performance.
