Former MFM midfielder Ifeanyi Ifeanyi has disclosed that he left Algerian side ES Setif despite signing a 3-year contract with the North African side.
The Chan Eagles midfielder revealed that the Algerian outfit failed to honor the financial aspect of the deal and owed him for months before he decided to quit.
Ifeanyi later who later returned to his former side Akwa United said the club financial challenges began following the imprisonment of the Club’s President.
“What actually happened is that the Club President signed me, whereas the Coach didn’t want me, maybe he doesn’t like a black player. And then the Club President who signed me was arrested and jailed. And then the coach wasn’t playing me”, Ifeanyi explained.
“The club was bankrupt because the Club President closed down the club account, so they weren’t paying me, and I stayed for 8 months they only paid me for 2 months. They were owning me 6-month salaries, so I couldn’t continue training and the coach is not playing me while I’m not getting a salary”, he added.
“The big players were leaving already and I can’t continue to stay there because there is no money. I had to cancel my contract and go back to Nigeria to continue my career,” he said.
Ifeanyi Ifeanyi had since left Akwa United to join Uzbekistan side Mash’al Mubarek in January 2020.
