Teams success ahead of personal accolades, Says Oshoala

Following her woman of the Match performance against the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, Asisat Oshoala insists she’s not after individual glory but team success.

Oshoala was instrumental in the Super Falcons demolition of bitter rivals Equatorial Guinea, Scoring three of the six goals scored against the two time African champions to lead Thomas Dennerby‘s side to the semi-final against Indomitable lioness of Cameroon.

The Dalian Quanjian FC of China attacker insists her target is to help the World Cup ticket and not golden boot award.

This tournament for me, is not about individual performance (award) the most important thing is the world cup ticket and decided to be a team player , I care about my team, I care about my countryrather than personal glory and personal accolades for myself in this tournament.

with my experience and with what we discuss as a team , the team success is more important that accolades.”

After failing to score in the Falcons‘s opening two games including missing several clear cut chances against the Shepolopolo of Zambia, the former Arsenal and Liverpool ladies forward maintains she’s happy with her performance so far .

If you say I’ve not been performing so far, what I will just say is that I’m happy with myself, with my teammates and I know Nigerians are happy, that’s the most important thing.

She concluded that the Super Falcons is not about her alone as the team has several players who can get the goals.

Everyone now has confidence in every striker in the team because each game we have different strikers scoring goals, we don’t have to depend on just  Asisat, we have Desire, Franscisca, Ajibade, Anam, I might be a plus, more boost and confidence but these are players that can score goals so we have confidence in ourselves.”
