Serie A fixtures pitched Super Eagles duo Joel Obi and his William Troost-Ekong against each other as their clubs, Chievo and Udinese clashed at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi on Sunday.
After 90 minutes, Troost-Ekong was the last man standing and his side walked away with three points; despite the best efforts of Obi.
Obi proved the pass master and showed aerial prowess; he ranked third in the number of tackles won, second in aerial duels and despite playing only 79 minutes was third best player in keeping possession.
But the Bianconeri Friuliani had no joy in them and try as the home side did to lock them out, they finally saw blood on 76 minutes.
They came back for more on the stroke of 90 minutes, by which time Chievo Manager, Lorenzo D’Anna, had sacrificed Obi for 39-year-old forward Sergio Pellissier in search of the leveler – that will never come.
Meanwhile, the victory shot Udinese to 7th in the table and within a point of catching Wednesday’s opponent Lazio, who are in 5th spot.
And the 25-year-old went on Twitter, spoiling for more as he shot a warning to Le Aquile.
Bravi ragazzi! Buon inizio per la settimana che viene. Fantastico @simonescuffet. Prepariamoci ad essere pronti anche per mercoledì! +3 #ForzaUdinese pic.twitter.com/cNkHXsakbU
