“We lost a legend”, FIFA’s tribute to Stephen Keshi

The world football governing body FIFA on Sunday paid tribute to late Nigeria Football legend, Stephen Keshi who passed on to the great beyond four years ago.

Former Super Eagles Captain died from a heart attack six months after he lost his wife of 30 years to cancer.

Keshi who was known as the Big Boss by his teeming fans is one of the few African players who won the African cup of Nations as a player and a coach after leading the Super Eagles to the 2013 edition in South Africa.

He also qualified Togo to the 2006 world cup but was sadly replaced before the tournament, however, he could not be denied the opportunity again, when qualified and led Nigeria to the 2014 World cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, FIFA has now led the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other players to pay tribute to the late legend.

“Stephen Keshi led the @NGSuperEagles to Africa Cup of Nations glory as player & coach, & was the first African coach to qualify two African nations for the #WorldCup.”

” We sadly lost a legend #OnThisDay in 2016.” FIFA wrote on their official Twitter handle.

Keshi remains the only African coach to lead their country to the second round of the World Cup.
