D’Tigress are a big character team at this year’s AfroBasket, posting massive wins, brushing equals and winnable sides to the park bench.
The team has reached the final of the tournament and in contention to retain the championship – in spite of the reported financial setbacks.
Power Forward Evelyn Akhator’s tweet on the eve of what is a crunch final, against host Senegal, didn’t giveaway much about the personal sacrifices of the players.
Instead the players’ aim, collectively, is locked on successfully defending the title.

NBBF media officer, Oni Afolabi brought the team’s financial straits to the fore.
“Right now, @DtigressNG are on an amazing run at the ongoing FIBA Afrobasket in Senegal and have booked a place in the final.
Yet, the @NigeriaGov through the Ministry of Sports is yet to release funds to the basketball federation for the girls“.

Nigeria will battle Senegal on August 18 in the Women’s AfroBasket Championship for a fourth title.
