President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Yaya has stated that the Federation is at this point awaiting updates from the African continental body on a new date for the African Weightlifting championship in Mauritius initially slated for the 13th of April which also serves as qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics after the competition was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Yaya speaking in a chat with www.Cornerstonenewsng.comsaid now that the Tokyo 2021 have a new date, then the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation will also be expecting new timeline from the continental body so as to also give timeline on action plan for programs of the Federation as well as the qualifiers for the Olympics.
“We’re supposed to do our qualifiers this April in Mauritius on the 13th but it has been postponed. So that is African championship which serves as African qualifiers.
Now that they have fixed the new date of the Olympics, we will be we waiting for the new date of the qualifiers but there is hope that we are going to qualify.”
