The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has told a Federal High Court that its investigation in the 25kg cocaine scandal, involving the Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Abba Kyari and other officers of the police, will be extended to foreign countries, where some people linked to the transnational drug cartel reside.
The agency, however, said the investigation will take some time as there are complicated dimensions of the case that require follow-up and unraveling.
This is contained in the affidavit it filed before the court in support of the application for extension of time to keep the suspects in custody beyond the constitutional stipulated time frame.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA has revealed that two of the suspects, Umeibe and Ezenwanne (sixth and seventh respondents), had confessed, when they were arrested in Enugu, that they imported the seized cocaine through Addis-Ababa to Enugu, on January 19, 2022.
Kyari and the four other police officers were arrested and handed over to NDLEA on Monday, February 14, by police authorities, five hours after the agency declared him wanted in connection with the drug deal.
