Former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson revealed he was close to managing the Super Eagles of Nigeria but opted out after he was told his salary would be divided.
Nigeria was looking for a new manager to lead the country to the 2010 World cup in South Africa after the sacking of late Shuaibu Amodu following the dismal performance of the Super Eagles at the 2010 African cup of Nations in Mali.
Eriksson who was one of the top coaches that showed interest and also the front runner has now revealed that he decided to pass the on the opportunity after he was told his salary would be slashed.
“After a while, I was called into the room with a chairman who declared that they wanted me as a coach, but that my salary would be divided into two parts. He told branschen.se.
“One that I got in to my account and another that would be deposited into another account that was not in my name.
“Then I refused to stand there, I thought something didn’t go right”.
Another Swede Lars Lagerbäck was eventually hired to lead the Super Eagles to the world cup and the team failed to proceed into the round of 16.
Lagerback later abandoned the job immediately after the tournament and returned to his native country Sweden.
