WOLVES SET TO MAKE 40 YEARS HISTORIC EUROPA LEAGUE APPEARANCE

Wolves will start their Europa League campaign in the second qualifying round, a first-time appearance since 1980 following Manchester City’s FA Cup victory against Watford at Wembley.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finished seventh in the Premier League but would have missed out on the Europa League if Watford had lifted the FA Cup.

Wolves have featured in just six European campaigns but came runners-up in the Uefa Cup in 1971-72.

Wolves last took part in the competition back in the 1980/81 campaign, also when the Europa League was under the guise of the UEFA Cup.

Unfortunately, a John Barnwell-led side fell at the first hurdle, in a 3-2 aggregate first-round defeat to Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven.

Wolves will find out their opponents during the draw for the second qualifying round which will take place on Wednesday 19th June.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will enter next season’s Europa League at the second qualifying round, with the first match in a two-legged tie scheduled to take place on Thursday 25th July.

The second leg will be played on Thursday 1st August.
