Yobo refuses to condemn Chinedu Obasi over bribery claims

Super Eagles assistant coach Joseph Yobo has reacted to the ongoing bribery allegations currently rocking the Nigeria football.

Yobo’s former teammate Chinedu Obasi has been in the headline for weeks following his revelations that he was denied a place in the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad because he refused to bribe some officials.

 

Obasi’s comment however divided lovers of Nigerian football as many believed he should have opened up before the head coach, Stephen Keshi passed away.

 

In his reaction to the issue, Yobo who was the captain of the team at the said, he won’t condemn the players for their revelations, but he suggested that everyone must leave the issue behind and move on.

 

He added that during his time with the national team, no coach demanded bribe from him in order to keep his place in the team.

 

“All through my 13 years sojourn with the national team, no coach made such demand from me but would not want to join in the condemnation of the players who have come out to speak for themselves today.

 

“I have lots of respect for both players at the center of this issue but we need to move on as the tournament in question is history,” concluded the Everton legend.

 

Yobo who won over 100 international caps with the Super Eagles between 2001-2014 and he’s the current assistant to Gernot Rohr.
