The Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Anambra State chapter has unveiled its plans to establish a Sports Excellence Centre with the capability of hosting national and international sports competitions between now and the next five years of the present administration.
This disclosure was made by its youthful Chairman, Engr. Maduakonam Obiefuna, on Friday during the colourful inauguration of the 21 Local Government Area Coordinators and Secretaries of the association held at the Fides Communication Centre Okpuno-Awka, Anambra State. Engr. Obiefuna stated that with the coming on board of his administration, it is the dawn of a new era for the YSFON in the state. Obiefuna stated that the YSFON Executive Committee under his watch has hit the ground running as they have started engaging and discussing with different stakeholders in sports and interested partners on how to move sports in the state forward.
Obiefuna posited that they have designed a template and blueprint to enable the association to stay focused on its mandate and objectives towards reviving sports in the state, thanks to the Advent of YSFON. He stated that already the design of proposed hostel accommodation has been concluded as the project when completed, which is part of the Sports Excellence Centre, will be key in tackling accommodation challenges during YSFON games in the state.
Obiefuna reiterated that the YSFON will initially focus on four sporting events namely football, volleyball, tennis and athletes but in due course will spread their tentacles to other sporting events, he also highlighted that the YSFON is poised in ensuring that within the next five years, Anambra State will host an international sports competition. He also pointed out that before the end of the first quarter of 2021, there will be Under 13, 15, 17 and 19 sports programmes as well as Heroes Cup to celebrate sports heroes of Anambra State extraction.
Highpoints of the occasion were the inauguration and administering of Oath of office on the new 21 LGAs coordinators and Secretaries as well as intimating them on their work plan and schedule as they are expected to work in tandem with the YSFON state EXCO.
