Zambia thrash Equatorial Guinea 5-0 to go top of Falcons’ Group B

Another pre-tournament favorite, Equatorial Guinea suffered a huge defeat in the hands of minors, Shepolopolo of Zambia at the ongoing 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.

The Nzalang Nacional were making their return to the tournament for the first time since they claimed the title in 2012, but it was a day to forget as the young Zambians put five unreplied goals pass them in Cape Coast on Sunday.

Bruce Mwape’s ladies were in front after seven minutes when Grace Chanda opened the scoring from set piece before Ireen Lungu got the second after she benefited from a defensive blunder from the Guineans just before the halftime break.

In the second half, the Zambian started well again and asked questions from the former champions, until Kundananji netted the third in the 57th minute.

Mary Mwakapila scored the fourth from a penalty spot in the 66th minutes to put the game beyond the Guineans.

The coach Jean-Paul Mpila’s side conceded the fifth as Kunda Nanji struck four minutes from time to complete the comprehensive victory for Zambia.

Meanwhile, in the first Group B game, South Africa stunned defending champions Nigeria with a 1:0 win to put themselves in a great position to make it out of the Group.

Zambia will face defending champions Nigeria, while Equatorial Guinea will tackle South Africa in the next Group B games.
