441 Army lieutenants for promotion exam to captains

 

 

No fewer than 440 officers of the Nigerian Army are taking part in the 2024 lieutenant to captain practical promotion examination, to test the proficiency of officers for higher responsibilities.

Addressing candidates and officers in Jos, Plateau state capital on Sunday, The Examination President and Commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Kevin Aligbe, said officers would be assessed accordingly during the examination.

He urged them to approach the examination with all sincerity of purpose, saying that cheating and other examination malpractices would not be allowed.

He said the Examination remains necessary to uphold the standards of the Nigerian Army and ensure that candidates are well-prepared for the responsibilities of higher ranks.

He noted that the examination would be based on a thorough assessment of candidates’ knowledge in command, tactical employment, administration, communication, skill at arms, driving and maintenance, administration in the field, French language proficiency, and physical fitness.

Gen.Aligbe added that to be qualified and promoted from lieutenant to captain, officers must score 50% in each subject and 60% overall.

“This examination would define your progress in the Nigerian army. I therefore, advise you all to accord the examination all the seriousness and determination it deserves.” He stated.

Earlier, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar emphasized the significance of the examination saying, “The relevance of this examination in building your leadership and capacity to achieve national security objectives cannot be overemphasized.”

He underscored the importance of candidates’ performance for their career advancement and urged them to approach the examination with utmost seriousness and determination.

“Your performance is crucial for your career advancement and it is essential that each of you approach it with utmost seriousness and determination.”

Addressing the security challenges facing the nation, particularly in the North Central states like Plateau, including banditry, kidnapping, clashes, illegal arms deals, and drug addiction, he emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to containing these threats through internal security operations, such as Operation Safe Haven, which he commands.

According to him, “The Nigerian army has in recent times strived to ensure that all forms of threats to our national security are contained here in the North Central states, especially on the plateau.”

He assured the candidates of comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination, including guards for accommodation areas, escorts for movements, and medical teams for emergencies.
