All African Games and Fujairah Open bronze medallist, Benjamin Okuomose has revealed his readiness to secure Nigeria Taekwondo team return to the Olympics following her absence at the 2016 Olympics.
The 24-year-old athlete who won one of two bronze medals at the 2020 Fujairah Open in UAE just two weeks ago has stated that the eye-opening experience from the world ranking tournament puts him at an advantage point.
“I have been training hard, The tournament at Fujairah helped build my confidence because I’m not even feeling nervous. At the Fujairah Open, I learned when I’m in the ring I’ve to think to compliment my strength.”
Benjamin also added that participating at the Olympics is another motivating factor, as the summer games is the biggest platform for an athlete to prove his self “I’m certain I’ll qualify, I have never qualified or participated at the Olympics, is something I really love to do, hence my Focus heading into the Olympics qualifier.”
The +87kg athlete defeated Russia’s Gabrasov Pabel 30–10 and UAE’s Amidu Amidu 36–11 before losing 27-32 to Carlos Adrian Sansores to win his latest bronze medal.
The African Taekwondo Qualification tournament is scheduled for 22nd – 23rd February 2020 in Rabat, Morrocco, the Nigeria Taekwondo team has Chinazum Nwosu, Ifeoluwa Ajayi, Elizabeth Anyanacho, Benjamin Okuomose, who will be contesting for Olympic tickets in the male -68kg, male +80kg, female -57kg and female -67kg categories.
