CAF must hold Crisis Talk over dismal World Cup outing – Drogba

African and Ivory Coast football Legend, Didier Drogba has charged the Confederation of African Football to hold a conference where “major actors” in the game can chart a way forward for African teams after the continent’s dismal outing at this year’s World Cup.

None of the five African teams progressed beyond the group stage of the tournament, the worst outcome since 1982 where the continent had two representatives – Algeria and Cameroon.

Speaking during his punditry duties at the World Cup with RT, the former Ivory Coast captain said, ‘I think it’s a concern and we in Africa, we need to organize a conference to speak about it to find the why and how we can change it and when we’re going to do it.

‘The president of the African Confederation is organizing this and will ask all the actors of African football to speak and debate about it; I’m positive.

‘This was a difficult result for African teams, but I think it is important to witness this to understand that we need to change things,’ Drogba said.

According to SCORENigeria, former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke and Head Coach Gernot Rohr will also attend the conference which will hold in Rabat, Morocco over the weekend.
