Norway dominates Super Falcons in 3-0 win, Onome Ebi marks Milestone

Nigeria lost its sixth opening Women’s World Cup game following a 3-0 defeat to Norway at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims on Saturday.

Norway raced to a first-half 3-0 lead through Guro Reiten (17′), Lisa-Marie Utland (34′) and an own goal by Osinachi Ohale (37′), leaving Nigeria chasing the game.

It was the second meeting between the two countries in the competition and the Europeans continued to show their dominance.

The win sees them go second in Group A, behind France whilst Nigeria stands third by virtue of a better goals difference than South Korea.

Saturday’s game also marked a milestone for veteran Onome Ebi, who became the first African to play at five World Cup tournaments.

She started and played all 90 minutes in the defeat to Norway, described the first half a difficult because the players didn’t pick themselves up early.

In her post match remarks, the 36 year-old defender insists the team must react in their next game, ‘we must give everything because we can’t afford to lose,’ she stressed.
