A great Month for Azarenka after winning first motherhood trophy

Former world No 1, Victoria Azarenka has won her first title since she became a mother in 2016. After the birth of her son- Leo on Dec 19, Just over six weeks later, she began hitting balls again and embarked on an intense programme of reconditioning under the supervision of a fitness trainer. But unfortunately, she subsequently split from the baby’s father and a long custody battle ensued.

Despite the family issues, she returned to competitive tennis at the 2017 Mallorca Open (19–25 June), winning her first match against Risa Ozaki, but she lost in the second round to Ana Konjuh.

 

Amidst a trophyless run in her return, In August 2017, Azarenka’s custody battle for her 8-month old son resulted in her withdrawal from that year’s US Open, also missed the 2017 Fed Cup final, withdrew from 2018 Australian Open despite getting a wild card.

 

On 16 January 2018, it was announced that Azarenka had won her custody battle hearing, she resumed her career with the 2018 BNP Paribas Open and lost to Sloane Stephens in the third round.

 

Azarenka didn’t quit playing, she kept fighting and in March 2019 she lifted the Mexican Open doubles title alongside Zheng Saisai. Azarenka said.

 

“This whole week has been quite a ride, so I’m happy to be standing here with a trophy. It’s my first title since being a mom, so it’s quite special.”

 

For Victoria Azarenka trying to be the best mother and top-flight tennis player has been easy as she said her son inspires her to be able to do what she loves “My parenting is to be a good example and to show him what it’s like to be hard-working, disciplined, determined, what it’s like to chase after your dreams, and what it’s like to be humble. I want to be all that because I don’t want to be a hypocrite.”
