Akuh Purity hails beach wrestling development

Nigeria’s Wrestling National team coach, Akuh Purity has hailed the performance of two wrestlers, Blessing Onyebuchi and Mercy Genesis who represented the Nigeria Wrestling Federation in Beach Wrestling at the Inaugural ANOC Beach games in Qatar.

As the NWF continues to prepare for the Olympic qualifiers next year, In a chat with Cornerstonenewsng.comthe wrestling coach expressing his happiness he said they chose just two representatives because the had an advantage in beach wrestling and other wrestlers were preparing for the Olympic qualifiers next year.

 

“The Federation is really focusing on the freestyle wrestling which is the Olympic sport so we’re preparing seriously for the Olympic qualifiers in February and March, so we sent Onyebuchi and Mercy and we’re very happy they made Nigeria and the Federation proud.”

 

Onyebuchi Blessing won Gold in the women’s +70kg while Mercy Genesis won Silver in the 50kg class at the Inaugural beach games, The coach added that beach wrestling is a welcome development for wrestling and will help to discover more wrestlers and grow the sport.
