Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Fredrick Lakanu, acting on the directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has visited Bayelsa State to carry out on-the-spot assessment of the circumstances surrounding the assault on a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kola Okunola, in Brass Island during the collation of the Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency election results.
Lakanu, while addressing senior officers at the Bayelsa State Police Command, condemned the act in its entirety and in line with the instructions of the IGP ordered the identification, arrest
The DIG stated that the IGP was miffed by the ugly incident but appreciated the conduct displayed by the officers in the face of obvious provocation.
He also ordered reinforcement of officers to flashpoints in the state to forestall any break down of law and order and urged members of the public to be law-abiding and not be tempted to take the law into their hands.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has provided insight into the incident in Brass, accusing DCP Okunola of “performing extra-police duties and issuing illegal orders.”

Buokoribo called on security agencies to hold the PDP-led state government responsible if there is any breakdown of law and order.
