Dream Team VII forward Taiwo Awoniyi was handed a rare start by Coach Sandro Schwarz in Mainz 05 Bundesliga defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf at Merkur Spiel-Arena on Saturday.
The Nigerian has struggled for game time since joining the German side on loan from European Champions Liverpool this summer.
However, the Nigerian was replaced after 46th minutes by Danny Lazta in the away defeat.
Rouwen Hennings scored the only goal of the game with eight minutes left to full-time time whistle after he connected perfectly with Niko Giesselmann’s pass.
Awoniyi has only made two appearances for the German side this season and he’s yet to score a goal.
