BRIEF CITATION AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DCP ABBA KYARI

COMMANDER IGP INTELLIGENCE RESPONSE TEAM (IRT)

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari was born into the family of late Alhaji Baba Kyari and Hajiya Yachilla Baba Kyari on the 17th of March, 1975 at Gombe General Hospital in Gombe town, Gombe State, when his father left Maiduguri, Borno State to Gombe Teachers College to earn his Grade II Teachers Certificate, he is a native of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, North-East Nigeria.

He had his early education at Government Primary School and Government Secondary School Maiduguri Borno State; thereafter he proceeded to the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography in 1997. He performed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa-Ibom State in the year 1998.

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on the 1st of May, 2000 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and he trained at the Police Academy Wudil, Kano State.

The young Abba Kyari was posted to Adamawa State Police Command in 2002 after graduating from the Nigeria Police Academy and was immediately posted to Song Police Division, where he did his one year mandatory attachment, he was later deployed as the Divisional Crime Officer (D.C.O) Numan, Adamawa State, he later served as Unit Commander 14 PMF Yola, 2 i/c SARS Lagos and O/C SARS Ikeja, Lagos between 2010-2015, he is presently the Deputy Commissioner Of Police (DCP) In-Charge of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT), Force Headquarters Abuja.

He as a Police Officer, has attended both foreign and local courses that include; Combat operations Course Police Mobile Force 2001, 2006 and 2007, Citizenship and Leadership Training Sherry Hills Jos 2001, Trans-Border crimes and best ways to tackle them organized by ECOWAS in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and World conference on kidnapping & Extortion held in Columbia, 2017, International Leadership Program on Transnational Crimes, Kidnapping and Terrorism, on a Special invitation by Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Washington D.C, U.S.A. held between April 15th-May 3rd, 2019.

He’s a member International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and has received numerous awards both home and abroad, these awards include; Triple IGP Commendation Medal for Courage 2012, 2013, 2014, Triple Lagos State Governor’s award for Gallantry, Leadership and Service excellence 2011, 2012, 2013, Lagos State Commissioner of Police Commendation Award for Courage 2011, Best Anti-Crime Police Officer in West Africa from Security Watch Africa, Star Award from CRAN 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017, Star Award for Outstanding Gallantry in Africa 2018 by Security Watch Africa, Africa’s Best Detective of the Year 2018, The Best Police Officer of the Decade Award, 2018 Hero of the Year Award by Silverbird Group and highest of them all Presidential Medal for Courage from President Mohammadu Buhari on 1/4/2016.

He fought Armed Robbery, Kidnapping and other violent crimes in Lagos State to Standstill during his five (5) years as OC SARS Lagos State from 2010-2015. Now he is recording tremendous successes across the Nation as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) In-charge of IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

He is a very patriotic and detribalized Nigerian with a high sense of integrity, courage, and selflessness. He is happily married with children.
