CAF calls off Kenya vs Sierra Leone 2019 AFCON qualifier

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has called off the much anticipated Kenya vs Sierra Leone 2019  Afcon qualifier as the latter remained banned by FIFA.

The two teams were set to clash in the return leg of Group F on November 18 but Caf have since moved to call off the fixture owing to the fact that Sierra Leone is still suspended by CAF.

Fifa took the step to suspend Sierra Leone on October 5, 2018, following what they termed as government interference. The Ministry of Sports for Sierra Leone had suspended SLFA President Isha Johansen owing to corruption allegations, prompting FIFA to take action.

The West African side was handed an ultimatum to ensure that things return to normal and the national team continues with the journey to the Afcon finals, but all fell on deaf ears.

As a result, Sierra Leone missed their Group F home and away matches against Ghana. The match against Kenya next weekend will not be played as well putting Sierra Leone’s campaign to the 2019 Afcon finals into serious trouble.

As it stands, Kenya leads the Group with seven points, four more than second-placed Ghana and six ahead of Ethiopia, who is lying bottom.
