Chan Failure gives us time to improve, League must resume- Ex-International Friday Ekpo

Former Super Eagles player, Friday Ekpo has called for the swift resumption of the Nigerian leagues as the way to fix the recent poor showings of the home-based Super Eagles team in the 2020 CHAN qualifier, after failing to secure the ticket against Togo for the CHAN finals in Cameroon.

In a chat with brila.net, the former Nigeria International revealed that the outcome of the CHAN qualifier 2nd leg game against the Togolese was predictable after we conceded 4 goals in Lome and believes the CHAN Eagles failed to work towards a qualification.

“We lost the game from the 1st leg and the league is one of the problems, training is different from matchday situations when you play competitive games you see actual mistakes and correct them.”

However, Friday Ekpo believes the result gives Nigeria time to work on our game and prepare for future competitions, but the issues of the League must be addressed “The Nigeria football league should resume immediately so the players can improve on their game and also help the Coaches to see the best players in the league that will help them execute games like these.”

“Also our League calendar should correspond with other leagues and start when due so the players will be motivated in preparation of league actions if the NFF and LMC start the League no player will want to miss out because they know they have a chance of making the national team.”
