Nigeria U-23 international Taiwo Awoniyi was hospitalized after colliding with a defender in Sunday’s German Bundesliga game on Sunday.
The Liverpool loanee was stretched off in the 23rd minute of Bundesliga encounter between his club Mainz 05 and Augsburg after he landed on his neck.
Awoniyi challenged for arriel ball with Ohis Felix Uduokhai, but his awkward landing send rude shock into the bench as he was immediately taken off.
Reports revealed that the former Golden Eaglets forward regained consciousness on his way to the hospital and was seen talking with the medics.
The striker was replaced with another Nigerian forward Karim Onisiwo and the club took to their social media handle to wish the player quick recovery.
“Taiwo Awoniyi has been stretchered off injured following a nasty collision 😢 Come back stronger, Taiwo! 💪”, Mainz 05 posted said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, the game ended 1-0 in the favor of the visitors as Mainz 05 failed to recover from Augsburg’s first-minute goal.
