Welfare of athletes and ex internationals paramount – Sunday Dare

Sports Minister, Mr Sunday Dare, says the welfare of Nigeria’s athletes and former sports hero remain priorities for his administration, after settling the medical bill ailing former Enyimba’s coach Kadiri Ikhana.

Ikhana, who is a member of the 1980 African cup of Nations of wining team cried for help when he was in Abuja some months ago for medical treatment, which included surgery.

Dare has now disclosed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development was delighted to help the former Enyimba bos, during the difficult period.

He said: “I heard his plea for assistance and I sent one of my aides to him while he was in the hospital to ascertain the level of assistance required by the coach. What better way to show support than to foot part of his medical bills? That’s what we have done.

“As I have always maintained, the welfare of athletes, ex-internationals, and that of those who still represent us remains our priority and we will continue to be on the lookout to assist in any way we can. We wish Coach Kadiri Ikhana a quick recovery.”

Ikhana who once managed the national U23 team needed surgery to correct the defect on his hips who left him using crutches.
