Dalung meets President Buhari over National Sports Festival

Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung has met with President Muhammadu Buhari to ask for the government support for National Sports Festival in Abuja next month.

Dalung, while speaking to the media on the outcome of the meeting with Presidency, said a private company which reached agreement with the Ministry to provide N400 million for the games backed out, leaving the government with no option than to than to cough out over N900 million if the festival is to see the light of day.

He explained that he asked President Buhari to intervene so the Federal Government rescue the games by providing the funds on time for the festival which is scheduled for 6th of December 2018.

The minister also added he pleaded with President Buhari to help intervene in passing of independent anti-doping bill after confirming that World Anti-doping Agency had threatened to ban the country ifindependent anti-doping agency established in the country.

He said The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) gave the country21-day ultimatum to set up the country anti-doping agency and believes the intervention of the the president on the matter will Nation to avert the ban.

However , Dalung concluded that Nigerian athletes has not been found wanting in drugs chatting , but the country must act fast and comply with WADA’s directives if athletes are to continue to compete in international competitions.
