Monarchs in Delta State have urged the police to stem the persistent menace of kidnapping, killings and other criminal activities across the state.
The monarchs who said criminal activities were on the increase, attributed the upsurge to herdsmen.
The monarchs under the aegis of Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers gave the charge in a meeting with the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa who presented a detailed account of the security situation in the state and factors responsible for the high incidence of criminality and efforts of the police to stem the tide.
The royal fathers also met with the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ononye Mordi on the update of COVID-19 and efforts by government to contain the spread.
In a eight-point communique issued at the end of the meeting, and read by the chairman of the council and Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor tasked security forces to beef up security with a view to curtailing the excesses of criminal elements in the state.
Efeizomor enjoined the public to adhere strictly to the safety measures by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control recommended by relevant health (NCDC) to prevent the spread of the global pandemic.
He called on government to ensure that the environment and all public places are adequately dis-infected/fumigated to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The monarchs expressed gratitude to the police and other law enforcement agencies for their efforts in the enforcement of COVID-19 regulations and protocols.
