Former Nigeria international Peter Ijeh says he doesn’t see black coaches managing top teams in Europe soon, irrespective of their qualifications.
Ijeh was reacting following former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke revelations that he was denied the opportunity to manage his former club, Aston Villa because he was black.
Ijeh who spent most of his career in the Scandinavian, playing in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, stressed that it will take a long time before black coaches can get equal chances like their white counterparts.
“Personally I don’t think there is anything we can do about it, because these people don’t want to have you on the round table and I think they hate to share power.” He said in an interview with next-gen coaches platform.
“When it comes to decision making, they don’t want to see you around. There’s nothing you can about that, it’s a bitter truth. We can keep our fingers crossed and hope things change, but is it going to be in our lifetime? I doubt it.” He concluded.
Ijeh who scored 38 league goals for Malmo FF in two seasons, was capped five times at the senior level by Nigeria but failed to find the back of the net in any of the game.
