Garba to address Eaglets defensive lapses ahead Australia tie

Coach of Nigeria U17 team Manu Garba has disclosed that the team’s technical crew are working very hard to address the defensive lapses of his side as they prepare to face Australia today in their last group game at the ongoing U17 world cup in Brazil.

Nigeria, who have already booked their place in the Round of 16,are up against Australia at the Estadio Bezerra, Gema today and they will looking to maintain the momentum they built after winning their first two games.

However, Australia will approach this game with all seriousness as a victory against Nigeria could guarantee them a possible qualification.

The Golden Eaglets, who conceded four goals in their 4-2 and 3-2 wins against Hungry and Ecuador respectively, will be looking to keep it tight at the back as they push for their sixth U17 world cup title.

Although despite the team’s scintillating display going forward, the team’s defence still leave much to be desired and coach Manu Garba and his crew are well aware of that, prompting the coach to promise working more on the team’s defence.

Garba said, “We are meeting Australia on Friday (today) and we are going to approach the match with a winning mentality, so as to conveniently top the group. We will maintain the tempo against Australia, who are also a good team.

“As a coach, I don’t want to throw everything open here but we promise we will work more on our defensive lapses, which I think it’s more of lack of concentration amongst the boys.

“Be assured that the team will continue to improve as the tournament progresses.”
