Gold Coast 2018: Nigeria’s Ajayi Qualifies For Women’s 400m Final

By James Agberebi :                      Nigeria’s Yinka Ajayi has qualified for the final of the women’s 400 metres in athletics at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Competing in the second semi-final on Tuesday, 20-year-old Ajayi finished second with a time of 51.81 seconds.
Maximila Imali from Kenya finished in first position after returning in a time of 51.52 seconds.
The six other athletes who also made it into the final are Jamaican duo Stephenie McPherson and Anastasia Le-Roy, Amantle Montsho and Christine Botlogetswe both from Botswana, home girl Anneliese Rubie of Australia and India’s Hima Das.
The 400 metres final comes up on Wednesday.
Ajayi won gold for  Nigeria in the 4X400 metres relay at the 2015 African Junior Championship in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In the men’s 100 metres final on Monday, Nigerian duo of Seye Ogunlewe and Enoch Adegoke finished fourth and seventh respectively.
The gold medal was won by South Africa’s Akani Simbine while Henricho Bruintjies also from South Africa claimed the silver medal.
London 2012 Olympic Games 100 metres silver medal winner Yohan Blake of Jamaica clinched the bronze medal, edging out Ogunlewe in a photo finish after both ran 10.19 seconds.
