At least four persons were shot dead by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers state. Two soldiers, a policeman and a civilian driver, who were part of the escort of an expatriate died in the attack.
The victims were attacked at Sterling Oil’s exploration site in Ogbemakoku/Iyak community in Abua-Odual on Monday evening.
The kidnappers opened fire on the escort after they noticed the presence of their target, a foreigner working with the oil company.

A source said the driver of the expatriate escaped with his principal, aided by residents of the community, who stormed the area to chase away the criminals.
The Rivers State police public relations officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said that bandits killed a soldier, policeman and a driver.
