Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a- yet- to- be identified woman in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
The gunmen stormed the area on Wednesday evening shooting sparodically and causing serious panic.
Three members of Vigilance group were shot dead while two others were seriously injured by the gunmen, who escaped with the women abducted in the area.
It was gathered that the woman had gone to inspect one of her buildings under construction,when she was abducted and taken away her abductors through the waterway in the area.
Two of the deceased vigilante members were said to be relatives and were among the personnel that were deployed to the scene of the abduction.
A close source at the vigilante office in Ikorodu said: ” The vigilante operatives responded to a distress call, when they were shot by the gunmen.
” The information was that a woman had gone to inspect her building in the area, when she was abducted and taken away through the water. The woman just got off from the motorcycle that came to drop her, when two gunmen swooped on her.
” They shot into the air to scare people in the area. They walked through the bush to the river, where they joined a waiting canoe.
” Some vigilante members in the area were quickly mobilized to the area and they were attacked by the gunmen. ”
A resident, Wasiu, told Daily Sun, that,” we are in serious panic. We are now living in fears. We are suspecting that the Kidnappers, who were chased out from Abuja have relocated to Lagos. We are appealing to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Fayoade, to do something drastic and rigid the security architecture of our water ways. The Marine Police Command should step up its game and do the needful. We need watertight security on our waterways”.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, saying that the police have commenced Investigation into the incident.
