Gunmen kill 4 policemen, set police station ablaze in Anambra

15 missing as gunmen attack commuter bus in Taraba

Four policemen were yesterday killed at Atani police station in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state.

The gunmen who stormed the police station at about 1. am after killing the policemen set part of the station ablaze.

The Atani station attack came after several attacks to police stations and local government headquarters in the recent time across the state.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that quick intervention of police commissioner to the place saved the situation.

He said the commissioner of police and other police officers at about 1.30 am stormed the place and engaged the hoodlums which made to run for their deal lives.

“It is an unfortunate incident that we lost our four police officers while the hoodlums burnt part of the station when the hoodlums attacked the police station at about 1am. Wednesday.

“Commissioner led patrol team to the place at 1.30 am. The quick intervention of the police brought the situation under control because the hoodlums were engaged. The attack will not deter us in carrying out our duties. We have launched manhunt for the perpetrators of the crime”

Ikenga stated.
