How Rangers edge out Katsina United to move up on the log

Rangers international of Enugu defeated Katsina United 1-0 in Wednesday’s rescheduled Nigeria professional football league game at the Nnamdi Azikwe stadium.

Rangers international went into the game at the back of their uninspiring goalless draw with MFM FC of Lagos last Sunday, while Katsina arrived the game after 3-0 bashing in the hand of Nasarawa United at the Lafia township stadium.

Rangers who are missing five key players for the game,  did well to create a lot of scoring chances, but heroic performance from Katsina United goalkeeper Daouda Kassaly and misses from Israel Abia made the score line more respectable.

Rangers almost took the lead in the 24th minutes, but Abia missed the wasted the opportunity, he had options to pass to a well positioned Olawoyin, but decided to shoot at goal and Kassaly made an easy save.

Rangers later broke the deadlock with few seconds into the second half through Chinonso Eziekwe who finished calmly past Kassaly.

Five minutes later, Israel Abia thought he had doubled the Rangers lead when he headed over onrushing goalkeeper, Kassaly but the ball ricochets off the upright before a frantic clearance sent it to corner.

Few chances followed up after then and Flying Antelopes held on for their fourth ever win over the Chanji boys and moved to 8th position on the log in the process.
