Huddersfield’s Mooy helps 7-year-old through brain cancer treatments

Huddersfield scored their first penalty of the season as Aaron Mooy converted from the spot after 52 minutes, to the delight and cheers of many fans especially 7-year-old Bella, though they lost 4-1 to Leicester City that day, a depressingly familiar feeling this season at a club destined for the Championship.

But what the Terriers have lacked on the pitch, they have made up for with generosity and human kindness.

Bella was all smiles as she watched Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium for the first time, but her smile was not all because of the scenery, she was so excited to have met the man who had helped her through brain cancer treatments, win or lose the end result of that game was irrelevant to Little Bella who had been flown 7,500 miles from Dallas to attend the game.

Bella met midfielder Mooy for the first time at Huddersfield’s Canalside training ground, just over nine months after she saw him on TV.

Huddersfield got their first penalty, something Aaron Mooy holds to luck from Bella being at the stadium “We never get penalties” said Mooy. “She gave us that luck today. I am glad she was happy that I scored.”

For young Bella her story was posted on Instagram and it got the attention of Mooy, who has helped her heal and grow her self confidence back “I like him.

He is like me,” Bella declared, pointing to her own head, shorn of what had been long, beautiful curls by powerful chemotherapy treatment.”

Mooy believes helping is one of the many privileges of being a footballer and he’s glad he could help “This is the privilege of the job, You can help in a lot of different ways. She got some sort of joy out of watching me play at the World Cup. Now she is a Huddersfield fan and she came to the match, which is amazing.

“This season has been tough for the club, but bringing Bella here has picked everyone up a little bit. That is the thing that made me happy today.”
