“I was taken off the starting line up because of politics – Igiebor on missing 2014 World cup

Nigerian midfielder Nosa Igiebor has disclosed that politics cost him a place in the Nigerian squad to the 2014 World cup in Brazil.

Igiebor is one of the notable names who failed to make the final cut for the tournament in Brazil, despite featuring in the 2013 African cup of Nations in South Africa.

 

The former Anathorsis Famagusta midfielder told www.Cornerstonenewsng.comthat his trouble began when he lost his place to in the team to Sunday Mba at the African cup of Nations in South Africa.

 

Igiebor said he was taken off the starting line in one of the Eagles games for then Rangers midfielder, Sunday Mba who went to become the hero at the tournament, scoring in the semi final and final against the Ivorian Elephants and Burkina Faso respectively.

 

“Football is all politics, they took out of the starting line up, not because of Sunday Mba is better than me, yes he’s hardworking and he is very good, but it all boils down to the politics in Nigeria Football and that is why I wasn’t unable to go to the World cup.

 

Even the Sunday Mba who was at the Afcon didn’t go to the world cup” he told www.brila.net.

 

The former Real Betis man has also declared that he’s not ready to return to the Super Eagles while Gernot Rohr is still in charge.

 

Igiebor has made 15 appearances for Nigeria and only scored twice in the process.
