ICC 2018: Atletico Madrid beat Arsenal 3-1 on penalties

Unai Emery’s first official Arsenal friendly match have ended in a 3-1 penalty shootout loss to Spanish side Atletico Madrid in Singapore this afternoon.

Atletico goalkeeper Antonio Adan was the hero on his debut in the International Champions Cup contest, saving three penalties before scoring the winning spot-kick himself to get his side’s pre-season preparations off to a winning start.

Atletico went 1-0 ahead in the first half through a Luciano Vietto header but Emile Smith Rowe pegged them back in the second period with a wonder strike from the edge of the penalty area.

The game then petered out and penalties was needed to decide the match. And it was Atletico who came out on top, with Antonio Adan scoring the winning penalty.

It was a great workout for Unai Emery’s men and he will take plenty away from the game.
