Former West Brom striker Brown Ideye has casted doubt over his chances of representing Nigeria once more later in the future.
Ideye last played an international game for his country since 2016,in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Zambia in Ndola in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.
However, the 30-year-old had been overlooked by current Super Eagles handlers led by German coach Gernot Rohr.
Rohr has made it clear that he’s only interested in younger players , but Ideye believed he’s more than capable of helping his country,before admitting his Club form hasn’t been good enoughin the last few months.
“I’ve come to realise I’m unlikely to ever play for my country again,” Ideye told Sports Extra.
“I think I’m more than capable of doing a job for my country. But the fact is that I have been out for 12 months, it’s only best I focus more on getting back to my very best and my club career.”
“It is unfortunate from my point of view but it’s quite plain to see I’m not in their plans.
“Still, I would love to be involved. Representing my country was always the ultimate honour, but it’s just not going to happen any time soon.”
Ideye has scored six goals in 27 appearances for three time African Champions and was part of the Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON winning team.
