Ideye Outshines Akpom In The Thessaloniki Derby

Nigerian striker Brown Ideye scored his second goal of the season for his Club Aris Thessaloniki in their 2-2 draw with rivals Paok Thessaloniki on Sunday.

The Derby of Thessaloniki is a football local rivalry between Aris and PAOK, both of which are based in Thessaloniki, Greece and both club has Nigerian player on their payroll.

Chuba Akpom and Brown Ideye both started the game for PAOK and Aris respectively, with nothing to separate both side at the end of hostility.

While Chuba Akpom fired blank for the current league Champions, Brown Ideye opened the scoring for Aris with just four minutes into the game.

The lead only lasted for two minutes, as PAOK draw level through Leo Matos who was yellow-carded in the 29th minutes.

However, Akpom departed from in the 70th minutes with yellow card to his name , few minutes after his teammates Leo Matos was sent off for a rash challenge.

Aris Thessaloniki’s numerical advantage was short-lived, after Lucas Sasha also earned his second yellow card of the game, as both team down to ten men.

Brown Ideye was also cautioned in the 78th minutes, before Javier Matilla doubled Aris’ lead with six minutes left in the regulation time.

Aris thought they had one over their city rivals , but Josip Misic has another idea, as he scored the equaliser for PAOK on the dot of 90 minutes.

The draw means PAOK missed the chance to go top of the table ahead of Olympicos who are leading thanks to their better goal difference.

Meanwhile, Aris are seventh on the log with seven points , three points behind their Olympicos and their city rivals after four round of matches.
