The Nigeria Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has lost 10 crack detectives within a short period of time. The detectives were shot dead in the line of their duties.
IRT is Nigeria’s leading technology/intelligence-led unit specifically created to fight kidnappings, armed robberies, terrorism, murder and other violent crimes across the Country.
Some of the breakthroughs recorded by IRT in the fight against crime in Nigeria include the arrest of the alleged most notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (aka Evans), and his gang in Lagos.
The arrest of the suspected deadliest kidnapper, Henry Chibuzor ( aka Vampire ) in Imo State and arrest of suspected Boko Haram terrorist responsible for the Nya-Nya and Kuja bombings of 2015 in FCT Abuja.
Others are the arrest of hundreds of kidnappers terrorizing Abuja-Kaduna-kano Expressway, kidnappers and armed robbers terrorising Kogi, Niger, Zamfara, Benue, Nasarawa, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Abia, Ogun and Taraba States.
IRT arrested the suspected kidnappers of elder Statesman Chief Olu Falae in Ondo State who were eventually Sentenced to Life imprisonment by the Ondo state High Court, the alleged kidnappers/killers Of Reverend Father Adeyi in Benue State who received a death sentence from Benue State High Court. The Kidnappers Of the Ikorodu and Turkish school Girls in Lagos and Ogun states respectively.
The arrest of the Kidnappers of two Americans and two Canadians in Kaduna State and arrest of the kidnappers of two South Africans in Birnin Gwari Axis of Kaduna State. IRT also foiled the attempt to bomb Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, arrested the suspects and recovered the explosives they wanted to use in their nefarious activities.
The Unit’s most recent breakthrough was the arrest of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist believed to be responsible for the 2014 kidnapping of the Chibok School Girls In North Eastern Nigerian. The Coordinators and Kingpins of Suicide Bombings in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States were arrested.
Also the arrest of the Offa Bank robbers in Kwara State who murdered 33 persons including nine policemen
The Unit has also foiled hundreds of crimes across the nation and brought thousands of criminals to Justice as well as recovered hundreds of rifles and other weapons from vicious criminals.
Sadly, In the course of the fight against crime and criminality, the unit lost 10 detectives during an encounter with men of the underworld.
