Mikel Obi Makes U-Turn Over His Super Eagles Future

John Mikel Obi has revealed he is yet to decide about his international future with Nigeria despite media reports that he might have just played his last tournament for the country.

According to AOIFootball.com, the Super Eagles’ Captain, who refused to confirm his retirement after the team’s third-place 1-0 win over Tunisia on Wednesday night, however, stated that he would make a final decision on his future in the coming days.

The 32-year-old featured in just two of the Eagles seven AFCON matches due to injury but stated that he was grateful for the chance to have served Nigeria again and would not rule out the possibility of reaching 100 caps with the national team.

The former Chelsea of England midfielder has featured in five Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, winning the tournament once in 2013, whilst just failing to finish on the medal podium in just one.

With 89 senior caps for the country, the new Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder remains the country’s third most-capped player just behind the duo of Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama who reached a century with the country.
