Napoli blow two-goal lead vs Empoli and Scudetto hope

In a dramatic game at the Carlo Castellani Empoli stunned title chasing Napoli turning around a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 on Sunday.

Napoli’s hopes of challenging for the Scudetto have all but ended as I Partenopei capitulated late in the second half to allow Empoli snatch victory.
Dries Mertens fired the visitors ahead just before the interval, he scored (44′) from a Hirving Lozano assist.
After the restart, Cameroonian Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa set up Lorenzo Insigne (53′) for the side’s second.
Insigne pulled his markers wide before hitting a low shot leaving the goalkeeper with no chance of getting a touch on the ball.
Unlike in the game against AS Roma, Luciano Spalletti kept Victor Osimhen on, but the Forward failed to find the back of the net from his six shots in the game.
Osimhen registered the most shots in the game and won more aerial duels (6) than any other player on the pitch. He also completed two dribbles and put in 3 tackles.
However, none of that mattered much as Empoli found confidence to fight back and through Liam Henderson (80′) the halved the deficit.
A goalkeeping howler led to the leveler and Andrea Pinamonti (83′) benefited from Alex Meret’s error.
But Pinamonti wasn’t done and the young Forward sneaked in the winner four minutes later to break the hearts of the travelling fans.
The result means Spalletti’s men are now three games without a win, are third in the league standings five points behind leaders Inter Milan, who have five rounds of games left.
