NFF confirms Gernot Rohr’s $1million compensation claims

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has lodged complaints with FIFA over his dismissal.

A top NFF official told BBC that, the Federation is expecting a final verdict on the matter from the World Football Governing Body in the next few days.

Rohr who has 12 month left to run in his contract was fired last November, despite meeting the all the targets set for him by the Federation.

He led the Super Eagles to both Africa’s 2022 World Cup play-offs and qualification for this year’s Nations Cup tournament, but came under fire for poor results against lower-ranked opponents during qualifying for Qatar.

The 68-year-old is now demanding for $1m compensation for unfair dismissal.

“Mr Rohr’s the only one talking in the media about a case that is already with Fifa,” a top NFF official told BBC Sport Africa.

“That matter is being handled by our legal department and we are waiting [for] a verdict this week or next week before making any official statement.”

Rohr is Nigeria’s longest serving manager. He managed 58 matches, won 31, drew 13 and lost 14.
