NPFL: Plateau United Edge Yobe Desert Stars As 10-Man Enyimba Stop MFM

By Adeboye Amosu:

Champions Plateau United ended their three-game winless streak in the Nigeria Professional Football League by edging out Yobe Desert Stars 2-1 in a rescheduled matchday 11 fixture in Jos on Wednesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Kennedy Boboye’s men, who still have a game in hand, jumped from the 10th to fourth position following the win.

Amos Gyang put the Jos club ahead 10 minutes before the break, turning home Isah Lengkat’s corner-kick.

Philip Asuquo however levelled scores for the visitors on the stroke of half-time with Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye failing to deal with his long-range shot.

It was the first time the hosts would be conceding a goal at home in the NPFL this season.

Emmanuel Odafe benefitted from Yobe Stars’ clumsy defending to volley home the winning goal in the 55th minute.

Yobe’s Chinedu Ohanachom was issued a red card seconds after he was substituted by Buhari Musa for an off-the-pitch incident.

In another rescheduled match 11 fixture decided at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Wednesday 10-man Enyimba defeated MFM FC 2-0 courtesy of goals from Nelson Ogbonanya and Chinonso Okonkwo’s penalty.

Enyimba were reduced to 10 men in the 58th minute when centre-back Isiaka Oladuntoye was issued a straight red card for a rash tackle on Sikiru Olatunbosun

The Peoples Elephant moved from the 12th to the fifth position in the table after the crucial victory, while MFM dropped from seventh to eighth.
