The Lagos State Police Command yesterday burnt drugs with street value of N400 million at Elegbe Ikorodu , dump site , Lagos .

Commissioner of police , Imohimi Edgal who led other government agencies to the venue said the drugs were recovered during raids by the police last year .
CP Edgal said the psychotic substances ,comprising of Cocaine , heroine , Indian hemp , tramadol etc had filled the spaces in the police exhibit rooms , so he approached the Court for permission to destroy the drugs Which the Court granted.

He said when he took over as the CP, he vowed to fight the issue of drugs which work hand in hand with crime and were destroying the youths.
He said the raid on criminal hideouts for criminals and drugs was a continuous exercise.

The CP while destroying the drugs said he has observed the connection between drugs and crime and the police would partner with other security agencies to fight drug and its’ dealers .

“You will recall that when I took over as Lagos CP, I stated that I would fight crime with every available resources. The substances we are destroying here were recovered during the course of raiding on criminal hideouts. The substances contain Cocaine, Tramadol, Codeine, Indian Hemp and other dangerous drugs worth over N400m.

“We know there is a nexus between drugs and crime. Perhaps the availability of drugs and arms are the reasons why we have crimes. This is why we have decided to fight illegal use and sale of drugs and we have been receiving assistance through partnership with security agencies and the Lagos State government.

“These drugs were seized between Jan. 2018 and now. Since our store had become filled beyond capacity, we decided to approach the court for order to destroy them.” he said.

Edgal further thanked members of the public for their useful information and urged them to say something whenever they are something.

“I will advise everyone to partner with us so that we can protect our children from illegal use of drugs.
I want to assure Lagosians that this partnership will be strengthened as we will go from community to community to get the drugs off the street.” he added.
