Police raid Imo forest,arrest 5 Fulani abductors

 

 

Sequel to a viral video at the weekend where two decomposing bodies were discovered in a forest in Avu,Owerri Local Government Area, Imo State ,the state Police command swung into action and arrested five suspects .
The viral video had credited the hunters association in the State for the discovery of the decomposing corpses and alleged that the Fulani were responsible for the incident .
However, in a statement by Imo State Police Publlic Relations Officer (PPRO),Henry Okoye, on Monday, he explained that the tactical team of the police led by the State Commissioner of Police ,Aboki Dajuma in synergy with some local hunters on Monday stormed the hideout of the hoodlums in a forest in Avu community and arrested the suspects.
The names of the suspects according to the CP are:Muazu Awuta, 30 , Abdullahi Abubakar,32,Ozeru Sabo, 25, Saddam Suleiman, 27, and Bashir Yahaya, 28 .
The CP disclosed that the suspects were from Jau LGA of Jigawa State. The suspects, he added, were currently undergoing investigation and have provided useful information to the police that would lead to the arrest of other syndicates on the run.
The CP, said,”two decomposing unidentified corpses suspected to be kidnapped victims and other items like telephones, wristwatches, shoes, slippers, five operational motorcycles of the abductors were also recovered in the bush.
“The command intends to carry out further DNA confirmatory tests to ascertain the identities of the deceased.Intense operation is still ongoing in the forest and other identified black spots with the aim of stamping out all forms of crime and criminality in the State”.
Similarly, other communities in Ndegwu,Orogwe and Irete in Owerri west council area of the state have raised the alarm over alleged reoccurring abduction in the areas.
Only a few weeks back,a couple was abducted in Ndegwu, that was even before a lifeless unidentified corpse of a female teenager was found at Uzo – Ukwu, also in the area,with parts of her body severed.
Meanwhile, the CP said the command has launched manhunt for the POS robbery attackers ,and killers of the police officer at Ohii junction on Monday even as he clarified that a police officer and two residents of the area were killed in the incident and not two as earlier reported
